Aug 9th 1-3pm Prophetstown Fen Nature Preserve Hike — outdoor pgm–STPK*
Join Angie Manuel (Park’s Interpretive Naturalist) for an introduction to the beautiful world of fens: unique wetland communities which are dependent on groundwater. $2/person program fee (gate fee is waived)
* STPK (Prophetstown State Pk): Enter the park via Swisher Rd (off North Ninth St, just south of Battle Ground). Meet at Prairie View Picnic Area – Blazingstar Shelter.

2017 Tri-County Indiana Master Naturalist (IMN) Program starts AUG 31st!
Nine Thursday evenings 6-9pm AUG 31 thru NOV 2 (no class SEP 14) rotating in Vermillion, Parke, and Vigo County locations
This course is open to all adults that have an interest in and would like to learn more about Indiana’s natural resources.
The number of participants is limited and will be taken on a first-come first-served basis.
The deadline for registration is August 18.
COST: a $70 per person or a $110 per couple registration fee, which covers the costs of all books, materials, park entrance and other fees.

Classes include: Wetlands Values and Functions; Astronomy & Birds of the Night; Plant Basics and Wildflower ID; Invasive, Edible & Medicinal Plants; All About Bats & Bat Detecting; Butterfly ID and butterflies in Indiana’s Natural Regions; All About Monarchs; Land Trusts, Ethics & Important Naturalist Authors; Geology of Indiana (including Indiana diamonds & gold panning); and Hoosier Mushrooms. Many of the classes will have an associated field trip or be held outside at Turkey Run State Park or Dobbs Memorial Park with hands-on learning.
