Invasive Plant Training Session at Pokagon Oct 3

Through the Lakes Country Cluster of The Stewardship Network (a new stewardship group focused on managing natural areas in Steuben and LaGrange Counties) Ellen Jacquart will be leading an invasive plant training session at the Pokagon State Park Nature Center from 10 am to 2 pm Eastern on Friday, October 3.  This training will feature-

  • The identification and control of many of the common invasive plants in northeast Indiana
  • How to report and map invasive plants in Report IN, the new invasive species reporting system in Indiana.

There will be a classroom session followed by a practical mapping and reporting exercise outdoors.  Attendees should register for this event at  http://www.stewardshipnetwork.org/LCCReportIN and should –

  • Bring a lunch and dress for the weather, as we will be outside part of the time.
  • In advance of the class, set up a user profile at EDDMapS.org and explore EDDMapS.org/indiana
  • If you have a smartphone, download the GLEDN app (Great Lakes Early Detection Network) onto it in advance of the class.  Note – the app is 133 MB, so your phone will need to be able to handle that.  The GLEDN app is run by EDDMapS, so the same EDDMapS user profile you set up will work with the GLEDN app.

There will likely be other in-person training sessions over the next year but they have not yet been scheduled; Ellen will be giving a WebEx on the reporting system through The Stewardship Network on February 11, 2015 from noon until 1 pm.
