This preserve is part of a large hardwood forest block important to migratory birds and nesting songbirds – this habitat is limited in central Indiana. The topography is rugged with steep slopes and is part of the northern extension of the Brown County Hills that spills over into Johnson County. The property contains high-quality examples of oak woodlands on ridges and slopes, as well as bottomland hardwood forest in creek valleys. A gift from the Dr. Laura Hare Charitable Trust made the purchase and ongoing maintenance of this preserve possible.
