MG Seminar “How to Feed a Planet” Sept 28
Hendricks County Master Gardeners are sponsoring a day-long seminar focused on the complex issues of feeding the world while maintaining a healthy environment: what goes into food production, how food gets to market, and how our food choices impact our planet.
Speakers and topics include:
- Ken Meter, Crossroads Resource Center, will present “Indiana Statewide Study of Local Foods.” Ken is from Minnesota and is internationally known, www.crcworks.org; he has studied the emerging food systems in Indiana.
- David Wyeth, a fourth-generation Danville farmer, will discuss “Farming Today: How it has Changed and What Farmers are Doing for Conservation.”
- Dr. Cris Hochwender, Professor of Biology, University of Evansville, will present “Native Plant Diversity” in the context of restoring native plants and plant diversity on 1100 acres along the Wabash River.
The day ends with a panel discussion of common issues and concerns. Fee $45, includes morning coffee, a snack and a nice lunch. There will also be vendors, lots of catalogs and handouts, and about 30 selections of best selling garden books at wholesale prices.
Registration 8:00 a.m., speakers 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Hendricks County Fairgrounds Auditorium, 1900 E Main (old U.S. 36), Danville. Please register by September 25 at http://hendricksgardeners.com/. Walk-ins are welcome, but lunch is not guaranteed.
