Allelopathy Is the Topic of September 21 SW-INPAWS Meeting

SW-INPAWS’ next meeting will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9:30 AM at Oaklyn Branch Library, Evansville, IN.

USI Professor Dr. Edith Hardcastle will speak on “Allelopathy Affecting Native Species.”

Allelopathy is a biological phenomenon by which an organism produces one or more biochemicals that influence the growth, survival, and reproduction of other organisms. These biochemicals are known as allelochemicals and can have beneficial or detrimental effects on the target organisms.  There is increasing evidence that many plant invaders interfere with native plants through Allelopathy. This Allelopathy interference may be a key mechanism of plant invasiveness.

All meetings are free and open to the public.
