INPAWS Hike: Scenic Fall Creek Gorge
When: Saturday, August 11, 2012 – 10:00 a.m. to noon – Eastern Daylight Time
Where: Fall Creek Gorge (Potholes) Nature Preserve, Warren County, west-central Indiana
Leader: Sally Weeks, dendrologist, Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, author of Shrubs and Woody Vines of Indiana and the Midwest
Trail Conditions: Possibly slick when walking on wet rocks; wet if walking through creek; steep when walking some trails
What to See: Fall Creek Gorge is one of the most scenic areas in west central Indiana. Its steep walled canyons, tumbling waters, and potholes — large, circular openings in the sandrock that form the bed of the canyon — provide a picturesque home for unusual flora and thriving fauna. The Preserve has a wonderful diversity of all plants, including bryophytes (mosses). We will be looking at anything, but no guarantees on some moss IDs.
Directions: Since there is rather limited parking at the Preserve, we will meet at the north end of the Pamida parking lot on the east edge of Attica, IN. (It is in the process of changing names, but either way, it is located across Highway 28 from Pizza Hut). We can see how many people show and decide then whether or not to car pool.
